Long Term Care/Disability Benefits

Post-65 Retiree Open Enrollment for Calendar Year 2025: Nov. 4 - Dec. 4, 2024

The open enrollment period is your opportunity to review your benefit options and change your current elections. No action is required unless you are making changes, opting in for the first time, or opting out of coverage.

You are encouraged to review the 2025 Post-65 Retiree Health Care Plans Summary Guide, for detailed information about the available medical, dental, and vision plans; information about the Defined Dollar Benefit (DDB) program; enrollment information, contact information; and more.

Questions about your benefits as a post-65 retiree or about the enrollment period should be directed to Benefit Management Services (BMS) by emailing PITT-BMSdocs@upmc.edu or by calling 1-888-499-6885. BMS hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Long term care insurance is a form of financial protection against the cost needed to provide the type of care you may need if you are not able to independently perform the basic activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, transferring from one location to another, continence and eating, or if you suffered severe cognitive impairment from a condition such as Alzheimer's disease.

The University’s group sponsored coverage is provided through Unum. You must complete medical underwriting to obtain this coverage if you did not enroll when you were first eligible or in a subsequent open enrollment for active faculty and staff members.

Plan Highlights

You may continue your long term care coverage if you were enrolled as an active faculty and staff member. Information will be provided to you on the method for continuing coverage and making the payment directly to Unum upon retirement.

Election for continued or converted coverage must be made within 31 days of the date your coverage ends. Premiums are paid directly to Unum for coverage to be converted. For plan details, rates, questions and downloadable forms, please contact Unum.
