Manage Your University of Pittsburgh Retirement Savings Plan Through TIAA
Check out this brochure to learn more about how you are our greatest investment with TIAA and the University of Pittsburgh.
Log in to your TIAA account
- Log in to my.pitt.edu using your University username and password
- Search for "Manage My Retirement Account"
- If you are no longer a University of Pittsburgh active Faculty or Staff member, you can access your account by going to https://www.tiaa.org/public and selecting the Log In button on the top right corner. You will need a TIAA user ID and password.
Change the amount of your contribution
Once you are logged in to your TIAA account:
- Select the Manage Contributions button.
- Enter a percentage of each paycheck or select the maximum contribution, which is the maximum amount allowed under IRS regulations. You must also indicate an effective date of the change. If you do not change the effective date, the change will occur the first of the following month. Select the Payroll Schedules link to better understand when you will see the change reflected in your pay, future-dated effective dates, or if you are on a biweekly pay schedule.
- You can choose to split your contribution between pre-tax, Roth and after-tax. If you do not indicate otherwise, you will be defaulted to pre-tax only.
- If you are eligible for the Accelerated Option, you will have the option to check a box to Select the Accelerated Option.
- Once you are done, select the Continue button.
- Review your election and how it is divided among the available University of Pittsburgh plans. When ready, select Confirm Elections to process your request.
- After showing your election into the plan, you will be asked if you would like to contribute to the 457(b) plan, if you are eligible for it. If you would like to contribute to the 457(b) plan, choose "yes" and continue to make your election.

Please note: Each account that you have through the University is able to be updated separately.
If you pass away, your vested interest will be paid to your beneficiary (or your estate if no beneficiary designation is on file). If you are married at the time of your death (regardless of whether you are married now), your vested interest will be paid automatically to your spouse, regardless of any beneficiary designation which you have made, unless your spouse has specifically waived his/her right to be the beneficiary. More information can be found on https://www.hr.pitt.edu/current-employees/benefits/retirement-savings-program/beneficiary-rules.
