Official Retiree Status

University of Pittsburgh faculty and staff are officially granted retiree status if they fulfill certain employment status, age and service criteria. This criterion can be found on the Retiree Eligibility page.

Faculty and staff granted official retiree status are eligible for the certain retiree benefits. Retirees under the age of 65 have the option of continuing with the same medical coverage as active faculty and staff benefits with the same cost sharing arrangement. Pre-65 retirees may choose to arrange for medical coverage using the DDB program. All post 65 retirees may purchase retiree medical coverage using the defined dollar benefit program.

Faculty and staff hired on or after July 1, 2004 may determine their eligibility for the defined dollar benefit program by using a simple calculator.
